Hey Folks,
Welcome to my film channel. It's a mix of my daily life.
Mixing my vision (film and stills) + Music + Wood Culture
A lot of my films are more of a snapshot in time, more than a how to. So I hope I can help inspire others to get out in the wilderness, pick up some hand tools, and learn the old handcraft. I am a professional photographer and international wood carving teacher in the green woodworking community. You can find more info about workshops, and also purchase hand carved kuksas and spoons over in my webshop. www.alexyerks.com

Timber Frame Blues
Просмотров 257Год назад
Some friends of mine were teaching a Norwegian Timber Framing class at North House Folk School and they asked me to come down and hang. I brought my trusty Grae Dog and my resonator guitar to play some improvised slide blues. I’ve always loved old work songs and their purpose. They keep up morale, productivity, and give people something positive for their minds to wander off to. So I chopping o...

Out On The Weekend with Marc Delgado - The Yurt Sessions
Просмотров 512Год назад
This is Neil Young's "Out On The Weekend" recorded with Marc Delgado on the side of a small mountain in Woodstock New York back in January 7, 2016 when I was living in a yurt. I was living a pretty solitary life at that point out in the woods focusing on my wood carving work. Marc would come around to keep me company, and he was starting to write a bunch for an album that is out now! I look bac...
Carvers Log 031821 - Episode 2

Carvers Log 031821 - Episode 2 I decided to take you along for another day in the woods. This time I went on one of my "get lost on purpose" kind of walks. It was raining the entire time and I realized half way though I shouldn't have been wearing my headphones as the cheap microphone not only sounds awful, but when it brushes up against my jacket, it makes a lot of racket. But for you the view...
A Quick Spoon Blank
Просмотров 1 тыс.3 года назад
I thought I'd share how I make my spoon blanks. Normally I do my axe work everyday, all year round, the same as I've done since around 2009. The axe to me is the greatest extension of the human body, and the oldest tool we know of in existence. When I'm axing, it takes me away to a far place. My escape vehicle, and I can chop, split, carve, and even shave with it just as fast as I can think. If...

Hello carvers of the Treen Revolution * Carver’s Log 022521 * It is Alex, your captain speaking. I have been having some really great late night conversations with someone lately about handcraft and life, woke this morning I felt really inspired to create. So I wanted to go harvest more materials to make some spoons for some people that missed out on my last sale from my webshop. Then a brillia...
A Big Thank You!

I wanted to write thank you here for all the people who support what I’m doing, but I thought just writing it wouldn’t feel genuine so I made a quick, unedited, unscripted, on the first take, unposed film for you! Yep, I know it’s not sharp, you can hear the fan from my light, and the crop is off and cutting off half my head, but I don’t care. (hence why haven’t made many films of myself carvin...
Automata Cecilia Schiller
Просмотров 4933 года назад
This is a short film I made for a very talented woodworker named Cecilia Schiller from St Paul Minnesota. She specializes in Automata which are a self operated mechanical object, or in other words hand cranky. They date back to ancient times, and Cecilia makes her's from wood. Now take a look and step inside the mind of Cecilia Schiller.

Here is a version of Beck's "Lord Only Knows" A Jet Lag Curse recorded after a long flight over the Atlantic from London to New York. With some footage shot in Scotland, and some in the Catskill Mountains of New York. Credit to Nicky Gibson for the Catskill Footage. All instruments, vocals and sounds were made by me, so it's a true cover.
